  • Chicago L Singers

While in Chicago this last weekend with Lyle and Ty, we were on our way downtown for some shopping. We were diverted to the Fullerton train station because there was construction on the southbound side of Diversey - which is closest to Ty's place. I mention this only because if we hadn't been diverted to another station, I would not have seen the gem that I am about to describe. We made the short trek down to Fullerton and found the train speeding away just as we stepped down the last stair. Ty's handy dandy iPhone (or maybe a sign on the wall - I'm not too sure) told him that another would be along in 6-8 minutes. We rounded the corner to find a comfy bench and settle in for the wait when we heard a lovely tune. They were two black men, probably in their late fifties. One armed with a wooden egg shaker and the other with only his voice. They were just so so on their own, but when they sang together in harmony.... WOW! They were a force to be reckoned with! They belted out such tunes as Stand By Me, My Girl and Ain't No Sunshine (a favorite of mine). Several people started pouring onto the platform to catch the next train - all of them pausing to listen and some even dropping a dollar or two in the birthday gift bag they were using to collect tips. An older couple started dancing.

This scene got me thinking how much more fun and simple my life would be if I could have a job like theirs! I could do my favorite thing all day AND make money for it. Even if you mess up, it doesn't matter because your audience will be whisked away in 6-8 minutes and you will likely never see them again!

***UPDATE! This might be them!!! (plus an additional member playing guitar)

  • Lesson Learned: Don't judge toooo harshly

Today, my child threw a fit in Best Buy. She threw herself on the floor kicking and screaming. It was just like all those kids I wanted to give a good spanking to when I was younger and carefree. I became the mother that I used to look down upon while her child was mid tantrum. I almost became the mother that made excuses for her child, but I knew better. The clerk making a snide comment had clearly never been a parent and I can't hold that against her. If she's lucky, she'll find out some day.

  • Chap Stick

I am never buying another tube of bubblegum scented chap stick for Miss Heidi! Five minutes after we open it, she has half the tube caked onto her lips and cheeks. The label is peeled half off and she is wanting me to get it the rest of the way off. There are teeth marks in it because it smells so good and she wants to taste it.

I kid... there will be many more tubes of chap stick in our future! :)

    See her shiny face?

  • Sisters

I can completely relate with the grounding effect of an older sister, having 2 of them myself. Sometimes it’s a “grounding” like the kind that leaves you flightless during a Michigan snow storm when you want to get on a plane to Hawaii… and other times it’s the kind that prevents electrocution.

Both are to protect us… but we usually only like one of the two.

Whatever You're Doing by Sanctus Real

    http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06AgY5Xoavw

    (V1)
It's time for healing time to move on
It's time to fix what's been broken too long
Time make right what has been wrong
It's time to find my way to where I belong
    There's a wave that's crashing over me
All I can do is surrender

    (Chorus)
Whatever you're doing inside of me
It feels like chaos somehow there's peace
It's hard to surrender to what I can't see
but I'm giving in to something heavenly

    (this is my favorite part)
    (V2)
    Time for a milestone
    Time to begin again
     Reevaluate who I really am
Am I doing everything to follow your will
or just climbing aimlessly over these hills
So show me what it is you want from me
    I give everything, I surrender...
    To...

    (Bridge)
    Time to face up
    Clean this old house
Time to breathe in and let everything out
That I've wanted to say for so many years
Time to to release all my held back tears

    It's time to face up
    Clean this old house
Time breathe in and let everything out

  • Things I have learned this week....

    1. The moment you come into a little cash, three things will come up for you to have to spend it on unexpectedly.
    2. Guys at car service centers do not put any stock in a woman's diagnosis of her car's problem.
    3. If you "man up" with aforementioned car guys and call them out on their crap, you will get results.
    4. It's really hilarious to say "11:11 make a wish" when the person you say it to is in a different time zone where it's actually 8:11pm. It's even more fun to have them say it back to you at 2:11am! **did you sense the thick sarcasm?**
    5. It's fun to skip down the sidewalk with a 3 year old!
    6. Blessings come from unexpected people and places. :)

    That is all.

  • current dilemma

Shopping is so much fun. Not clothes shopping so much as accessory shopping..... I am seriously wanting a new purse. I have been in 3 different stores with PURSE IN HAND... ready to check out and then I talk myself out of it! I have apparently become so cheap that I can't bring myself to spend $30 on a purse that is regularly $50. "They'll mark it down more pretty soon.", I tell myself. WHY!!!!??? I want a new purse. I work hard. So, I should just get one... right?
